Métacognition et interactions en didactique des langues Perspectives sociocognitives Currents in Comparative Romance Languages and Literatures French Edition Christine Sagnier Books Reviews

  • A very clear and innovative presentation of recent theories on language learning and teaching. Provides readers with ideas on how to integrate the teaching of critical thinking with reading and writing. Topics include sociocognitive and sociocultural theories, highlighting connections between research on metacognition and Vigotsky's theories. Particularly helpful is that each of the books 8 chapters does have a set of questions that enables the reader to think critically on the concepts and the issues covered.

Great read for those wishing to integrate up-to-date theory with innovative pedagogical practices, for example those on literacy. Highly recommended.
  • This book is very well written and is probably one of the clearest books I have read on the topic. It not only lays out theories in a way that is very accessible to the reader, it also provides concrete examples on how to apply such theories in language classrooms. One of my favorite parts of the book is the extensive review of previous theories and approaches in second language teaching in the recent years and Sagnier's description of how sociocognitive theory, along with sociocultural theories, ties in with all these approaches. I would highly recommend it to language teachers in general. The author surely knows how to balance theory and practicality and her book should appeal to a wide audience.
  • Highly recommended! As a foreign language teacher, I found this book a valuable resource, and a rare one in that it outlines not only theories of pedagogy (particularly the literacy approach) but moreover practical ones. I appreciated the clarity with which it explained existing pedagogical theories, making the information easy to follow and retain. A real highlight are its concrete, innovative, and practical examples, which really help to anchor and demonstrate the didactic theories discussed and provide excellent inspiration for creating classroom activities. I believe this book is an excellent resource for both new and experienced teachers seeking to innovate in the classroom. I also think it would make a great textbook in any graduate pedagogy seminar. It's among the best I have encountered in the field.
  • This book is an excellent book. Sagnier's writing is clear and extremely approachable. It is targeted not only to linguistics specialists but also to all foreign language teachers and graduate students. People who are interested in making a positive difference with their foreign language teaching, and learning more about the acquisition of a second language should read this book. It is not only theoretical but also practical In fact, all foreign language professors should use this book while teaching their pedagogical seminar.
