Prism Cloud Harbinger Book 4 Audible Audio Edition Jeff Wheeler Kate Rudd Brilliance Audio Books Reviews
- I really loved the previous books in this series, but this one was quite the let down. For some reason, the author chose to drastically change Cettie’s character. He made her so much weaker and as a result she continuously acted in ways that made no sense. Her father is danger. What does she do? Instead of trying to go to him immediately, she sends a message in directly through a jilted former love interest and former drug addict. Given the option, to send a secure message through her father’s trusted advocate, she says I’ll do that later. Huh? Really? When she finally decided to go visit him, she does so in the company of her bestfriends’s tormemtor and nemesis? And is kidnapped by the same. Really? Her father, the man who saved and changed her life and took her in at great personal cost is then murdered. Does she get angry at the murderers? No instead she tries to get to know them better. Are you kidding me? Why is Cettie such a weak idiot in this book? And yes there is some magical influence here and there, but the story really isn’t plausible. Throw in some other plot holes and you have a poorly written book. I really hope the next one is better. This author is a really good writer, so I’m really disappointed.
- First let me say I love Jeff Wheeler books. Out of all of them this is 2nd favorite series. King Fountain being my number 1. I have read books 1-3 of this series about 5 times. Counting down the days until book 4 came out. Can I just say my heart hurts. While I am glad Sera has matured, I am heart broken that my Dearest Cettie has done 180 and is so weak now. Book 5 has to turn this around. Maybe, she has to go through this trial to became stronger and put a end to the .....no spoilers... Book 5 I am hoping ends like Princess Maia. Cettie has been through too much.
On a side note I would like to say I love Kate Rudd Narration, for this series. - Coming into this book, Sera and Cettie seem to have figured out who they are and the course their life will take them. However, our protagonists experience unanticipated twists caused by the cunning machinations of unscrupulous individuals.
Both Cettie and Sera find their own plans disrupted while the balance of power is threatened in both Comoros and Kingfountain. The antagonists commit many atrocities to usurp power poisonings, deceit, military coups, kidnapping, murder, and a web of lies. As a reader, I felt the pain of losing beloved and important characters. And joy as the criminals are sometimes outsmarted and military victories come. This book is a little darker than some of Jeff’s other books, but underlying the chaos that ensues, there is some light peaking through gathering storm clouds.
Cettie, who has been ever constant and true, finds that what was once clear is now hazy and dark. She learns, at last, her true parentage which brings more questions and doubt than answers and peace. Cettie finds herself at a crossroads, questioning what is real as she tries to figure out who she is in these rapidly changing worlds.
Amid the tumult, Sera embraces the roles that are hastily thrust upon her with grace and conviction. While there is much uncertainty, she provides just enough hope for the future to keep you, as the reader, from completely despairing.
Themes and allusions from many of Jeff’s other series are incorporated into the plot. While you do not need to read his other series to enjoy this one, having done so adds significant depth to the story.
Again, Jeff masterfully finds the balance—the tug and pull in different directions—to keep the reader engaged. I found myself filled with hope, despair, frustration, sadness and joy as this story moved me along with ever-increasing tension toward what must be an epic conclusion in the next book. I anxiously await the final installment—hoping that our champions will find a way out of the snares that have been laid for them, and that justice and truth will prevail as two civilizations clash.
Disclaimer I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts expressed here are my own. - I devoured this book in two reads. Then again, it was a short book and my only complaint. I thought this was the last in the series and am disappointed that I have to wait for the final, which I've already pre-ordered. That aside, the saga is gripping, imaginative and wonderfully satisfying. Wheeler has that unique capacity to get his readers deeply invested in his characters and story. I believe this is the 23rd book that I have read and except for two, all were 5-star quality. Thank you, Jeff Wheeler.
